About this opportunity
The Cardiff Met Sanctuary Award is a scholarship opportunity to support displaced people to access higher education. The scholarships include a full fee waiver for the duration of the university course that the prospective student has an offer for, plus weekly financial support towards living expenses and access to a mentor. Applications for scholarships will be open to undergraduate and taught postgraduate Cardiff Met offer holders who have been displaced from their home countries and meet the scholarship eligibility criteria.

Asylum seeker, Refugee status, Humanitarian protection, Limited or Discretionary Leave to Remain (private/family life), Ukraine schemes
Additional notes about eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet ALL of the eligibility criteria to be considered for a scholarship and be in a position to verify their circumstances.
Immigration status:
– Asylum seeker
– Granted discretionary leave to remain or Humanitarian Protection
– Partner/dependent included on the application of an asylum seeker in the UK (Spouses/civil partners must have been the spouse/civil partner on the date on which the asylum application was made.
Children/step-children must have been aged under 18 on the date on which the asylum application was made).
– Refugee
– In the UK under the Homes for Ukraine/Ukraine Family scheme
AND
– Hold a conditional or unconditional offer from Cardiff Metropolitan University for entry in September 2023 onto a degree course.
– Currently attending a school, college, community or voluntary group, which can provide a reference in support of your application OR you are in the UK under the Homes for Ukraine/family scheme and your
sponsor can provide a reference.
– Living within a suitable distance to easily commute to university.
– Do not require accommodation

Additional details about application process
The Sanctuary Award application form and guidance notes will be available on the Cardiff Metropolitan University website from the date applications are open. (This will be from March 2024).
We recommend that applicants read the full guidance notes before completing the application and prepare the supporting documents as early as possible, including a reference from your school, college or community group. Incomplete applications cannot be considered.
All applicants will receive a response after the application deadline has passed. Please note, there are a limited number of applications available and therefore not every application will be successful.
