About this opportunity

In support of our values and vision, University of Cumbria is pleased to offer one Cumbria Sanctuary Scholarship per year to forced migrants who are not eligible for student finance.
The scholarship consists of:
• A full yearly fee waiver.
• Free campus accommodation (all year round).
• A £3000 grant for each year of the course.
The scholarship is open to a person who has the right to study in the UK on any University of Cumbria full-time undergraduate degree (up to four years in duration, including foundation degrees) or any full-time taught postgraduate programme (up to two years in duration, Masters) located at our Ambleside, Carlisle and Lancaster campuses (programmes running from our London campus are not included in 2024).

Asylum seeker, Refugee, Humanitarian protection, Limited or Discretionary Leave to Remain, Ukraine or Afghan Schemes

Discretionary Leave to Remain/Limited Leave to Remain as the result of an asylum claim.
Humanitarian Protection without access to Student Finance.
Refugee Status without access to Student Finance.

Additional details about application process

Before applying for the scholarship you must have been offered a place (conditional or unconditional) in one of the University of Cumbria’s undergraduate or postgraduate taught programmes and have accepted this as your firm choice.
Please complete the Online Application Form which will assess your eligibility and suitability for the Sanctuary Scholarship. Please note that you will be required to upload documentary evidence of your Immigration Status to an online folder as part of the application form.
