About this opportunity
City St George’s, University of London is proud to support equal access to higher education for forced migrants.
The Sanctuary Scholarship is for those seeking asylum or those granted Discretionary Leave to remain in the UK or some other form of temporary leave as a result of an asylum or human rights application and who cannot otherwise access student finance.
The Sanctuary Scholarship is for undergraduate students and provides a full tuition fee waiver plus £17,635 each year (for 26/27 entrants) for maintenance to cover rent and other living expenses, plus personal support provided by the UniCares staff team.

Additional notes about eligibility criteria
In addition to the above, applicants must meet all the following criteria:
Have received a conditional or unconditional offer of full-time Undergraduate study from City St George’s, University of London, having applied through UCAS or other such as Kaplan
Be new full-time entrants to City St George’s and starting the first year of their degree as a new student (i.e. those starting in Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 are not eligible.)
Be currently attending or known to a school, college, community, voluntary or faith group which can provide a reference in support of your application
Must not hold an undergraduate/postgraduate degree awarded in the UK and/or abroad
Not be eligible for Tuition Fee Loans or Maintenance Loans from Student Finance England/Wales/NI/SAAS as a direct result of your current immigration status
If you are applying for a programme that requires you to pass a DBS check in order to undertake clinical placements and participate in the course, it is your responsibility to ensure you have the necessary documentation. Failure to pass the DBS checks, will result in a suspension/withdrawal from the programme.

Additional notes about support provided
As well as the full fee waiver and full living costs, successful applicants will also receive support and individual guidance from a designated UniCares staff member throughout the course. This includes financial, academic and pastoral support, advice and information, priority access to student accommodation and free gym membership.

This includes a personal statement, your rationale for higher education, your interruptions to prior education and support needs, amongst other things. A referee statement in support of the application is also required and other supporting documentation such as evidence of your immigration status. This is a competitive process and the selection panel can only consider information contained in the application.
