STAR Mentoring Programme
Student Action for Refugees (STAR)
About this opportunity
STAR’s national university mentoring programme trains current university students (mentors) to provide guidance for prospective students (mentees) from sanctuary seeking backgrounds.
How does it work?
The mentoring programme runs twice a year:
- November-December: Applying to university mentoring programme
- February-March: Applying for scholarships mentoring programme
The programme starts with an information session, so mentees get an overview of information about applying to university, scholarships, and the additional support available to people from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds.
In online mentoring sessions, STAR mentors, who are currently studying at university, share general guidance and resources with mentees from refugee or asylum-seeking backgrounds. Mentees have the opportunity to talk through the process of applying to university, research scholarships and funding, and chat about what it’s like to study in the UK.
