About this opportunity
The University of Hull is proud to be part of the growing network of Universities of Sanctuary. As part of this, the Undergraduate Refugee Scholarship aims to support one student who has sought sanctuary in the UK and is now eligible for undergraduate student finance, but due to previous education undertaken outside of the UK is not able to take out the Tuition Fee Loan for all years of study.
The award consists of a full tuition fee waiver to cover any years of study for which the successful student is not able to take out a Tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance England. When the student becomes eligible to receive a Tuition Fee Loan the award will cease.

Refugee status, Humanitarian protection, Ukraine schemes, Other forms of sanctuary (including Calais Leave, Section 67 Leave, UASC leave and Stateless Leave)
Additional notes about eligibility criteria
To receive a University of Hull Undergraduate Refugee Scholarship applicants must:
- Be offered a place to study at the University commencing in September 2023, or have already started a course
- Apply for the Undergraduate Refugee Scholarship, providing all requested information and evidence
- Meet the eligibility criteria for student finance, but be unable to take out a Tuition Fee Loan for all years of study due to previous study undertaken outside of the UK
- have been granted Refugee or Humanitarian Protection status, or be in the UK under the Ukraine or Afghan visa concessions
The following groups of students are not eligible to be considered for a University of Hull Undergraduate Refugee Scholarship:
- Applicants who are eligible for a Tuition Fee Loan for all years of their course
- Applicants who do not meet the eligibility criteria for student finance (you may instead be eligible for the Sanctuary Scholarship)
- Students of the Hull York Medical School

Additional details about application process
Please apply for your place to study at the University of Hull first, if you haven’t already done so. Once you have done this you may apply for the Undergraduate Refugee Scholarship. You must apply and send all supporting documents by 20 July 2023 in order to be considered for the scholarship.
All shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview. This may be virtual or in-person, depending on your circumstances.
